We’re starting back with a super easy post about the Thorn Bite Lip Oils, because I can tell you right from the start that I LOVE this product.

Rituel de Fille recently released their Thorn Bite Peptide Plump Creme Lip Oils, which come in six shades. Their description of the Thorn Bite oils focuses on the benefits and luxury of the product: “Enriched with peptides, botanicals and organic skincare ingredients, this luxuriously creamy formula merges makeup and lipcare to create a formula unlike any lip oil you have tried before.”

I chose to review one of the Color Sets available, called Blooms, which is is a trio made up of three gorgeous shades:
1. Rose Bloom (sheer rose mauve)
2. Rose Pinch (sheer ripe rose)
3. Rose Fruit (sheer plum rose)

True to their description, these are nourishing and moisturizing oils, with a hint of a glossy finish. While they are not wildly opaque, there is enough pigmentation where you can see something on the lips, yet not so much that I’d be hesitant to apply sans mirror.

Finally, the packaging of the Thorn Bite lip oils is stunning. The component is a weighty glass, and the black top connects to a perfectly sized doe foot applicator.

As always, I invite you to check out my swatch Reel.

To summarize, Thorn Bite is for you if you like a non-sticky, moisturizing oil with a medium color payoff. Look elsewhere if you need a gloss that lasts all day or has opaque coverage on the lips.

You can get $10 off your first Rituel de Fille purchase by CLICKING HERE. If you were to pick only one Thorn Bite, my favorite is Rose Pinch. I also highly recommend the 3 Drop Weightless Serum Foundation!

I’m back and here to talk more makeup and masks! In Part 1 we talked about how to play up your eyes when they’re your only visible feature. Today we are going to address how you might want to approach the rest of the face. Specifically, let’s discuss some items that have a “my face but better” feel, for days that you’re keeping your mask on and not worried about too many virtual meetings.

Foundation Alternatives

There are a few products I’ve been using that allow the skin to show through, yet help blur minor blemishes and imperfections. The first one that comes to mind is the BECCA Zero No Pigment Foundation. This makeup/skincare hybrid blurs pores while providing hydration. Most importantly, I have not found it to get oily as the day goes on AND since it’s clear you won’t have the dreaded mask makeup stains!

Another option if you like a more dewy, radiant look, is to use a primer like the VDL Lumilayer Primer Fresh . This lightweight formula adds an amazing luminescence to the face that is natural and not at all sparkly or greasy. If you prefer the opposite, and want a mattifying product, VDL makes the Velvet Blur Primer, which I often use on days that are going to be warm and humid.

Concealer

After prepping my whole face with one of the above products, I like to spot conceal any glaring “issues.” To brighten up the undereye area, my longtime favorite is the Tatcha The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment. It is another makeup/skincare hybrid that truly does not crease or emphasize fine lines.

For areas of redness I often reach for my Kosas Revealer Super Creamy Brightening Concealer. It is incredibly effective at evening out the complexion by the mouth and around the nose. Alternatively, I’ve also had a lot of success with Kaja’s Don’t Settle Concealer.

Set it and Forget it

If you’ve applied concealer after that base product you are going to want to set it before throwing on your mask. I would recommend using a translucent powder, so that any product that does come off on the mask does not stain it. My holy grail translucent powder is the By Terry Hyaluronic Hyrda Powder . I like to press it in on the areas I’ve concealed using my IT Cosmetics Airbrush Blurring Concealer Brush.

You may also want to give your whole face a once over with a setting spray. My favorite mists are the Pop Beauty Makeup Magnet Setting Mist and the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray.

As always, I want to reiterate that there is no “right” way to do your makeup. These were just some tips that I’ve found helpful while navigating the world of mask-wearing. Did I miss anything important? Let me know in the comments so I can address it in Part 3 of Makeup and Masks!

If you are a teacher like myself, or in healthcare, retail, etc., you are probably expected to wear a cloth or paper mask for a large portion of your workday. You are also required to wear these masks when shopping and going about your daily errands. Is it ideal? No. But these measures protect us and those around us, so let’s make the best of the situation, shall we? For Part 1 of this “series,” I’m going to start with the obvious area of focus when you have a mask on: your eyes. I am of the firm belief that if you are covering the rest of your face, you can do whatever you want with your shadows and liners. Now is definitely the time to play with color, texture and shape. After all, we don’t have to worry about coordinating our eye makeup with anything else if nothing else is showing! –Please note that the links included in this post […]

Play With Color

A surefire way to draw attention to your most important (and only visible…) features is to apply a wash of color. For a quick but impactful look, try the Kosas 10 Second Liquid Eyeshadow. My favorite unique shades are Waterfall and 333. For soft, blendable colors you may want to turn to Aether Beauty. Their Amethyst Palette is a great choice if you feel comfortable with shades of purple. I talk about another Aether palette in this post. If you like a more pigmented eyeshadow, Viseart is your brand. Warm tone lovers will gravitate toward their Warm Edit. Feeling bold? Go multichrome. Natasha Denona recently debuted the Chromium Multichrome Liquid Eyeshadow.

Play With Texture

Shimmer and glitter are no longer just for special occasions. There are so many options for bringing a little sparkle into your daily look. For an all over ethereal glimmer, I can’t recommend Roen Beauty highly enough. They have both Cool and Warm options. Or, try 11:11 for a little bit of both! If you really want to show off with a larger glitter, Pixi Beauty Liquid Fairy Lights are the way to go. I recommend dabbing a little on to the lid and then patting around with your finger.

Play With Shape and Definition

Don’t forget to frame your peepers with a quality mascara. My recent favorites are Ilia’s Limitless Lash Mascara and Roen’s Cake Mascara. Both of these options offer fluffy, defined lashes and a “clean” formula.

Finally, you may want to add a little drama to your liner game. Achieve a classic wing using the Ilia Clean Line Liquid Liner. Not a fan of liquid liner? My favorite trick is to apply a fine tipped liner pencil, like the Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra-skinny Gel Eye Crayon, and pull out a small wing using an angled brush!

Remember, there is no wrong way to do your makeup. You don’t even have to wear makeup. But if putting on some fun eye shadow or liner makes you feel happier while wearing a mask, I say do it! Wishing you good health!

Divinyl Lip Shine Info

The packaging is sleek and fun. Housed in a shiny purple (or is it pink?) component with the signature lip shape in the middle, these lipsticks are a tiny bit thinner than PatMcGrath’s traditional “mattetrance” and “luxetrance” products. The Divinyl Lip Shine is heavy enough to feel substantial, but is not the weightiest lipstick I’ve held.

As usual, the trios are grouped into “Skin Show” and “Colour Blitz” options, though I personally feel all except for one shade are fairly “colorful.”

The Swatches

Now, for the swatches! You’ll see below that all the shades are shiny, as expected. The Divinyl Lip Shine shades are pigmented enough to show up in one swipe, but not to the point where the bolder shades are intimidating. Feel free to visit this Instagram post if you want to see a video of me trying them all on!

Lip Divinyl Swatches

The Review

I’ve now worn the Divinyl Lip Shine shades now for a couple of days. I can safely say that this is one of my favorite lip products of the whole year. I find them to be similar in texture to Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, but more moisturizing and slightly longer lasting. They do remain glossy during wear, and are comfortable throughout. This will not be the product for you if you aim for longevity. However, it is a great option if you anticipate needing to swipe something on quickly after removing your mask. These shades are also great to brighten up the face for a Zoom call! At $36 a piece, you do want to make sure this is an item you’ll grab frequently. And do make note, since the trio is $92 and the set is $184, you actually get a better deal by buying in “bulk.”

Four Foundations to Try This Summer https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2020/07/foundation_to_try/ https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2020/07/foundation_to_try/#respond Tue, 28 Jul 2020 11:05:00 +0000 https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/?p=1714 While this might not be a big summer for “going out” (cue the complaining about pandemic related inconveniences…) many of us still want to look our best for the few people we see each day and, frankly, for ourselves. Today, I’d like to share four light to medium coverage foundation options worth trying if you’re in the market for a new shade or formula.*

*Links included in this post may be affiliate links.

#1 – KOSAS Tinted Face Oil Foundation

Best for those seeking light coverage and a moisturizing formula

KOSAS foundation

Ladies and gents, this is sheer coverage at its finest. This product is called “tinted face oil” and that is what it is, a skin conditioning oil that’s tinted enough to even out and brighten the complexion. The formula is pure liquid, so be careful when taking off the cap to apply. A little goes a long way, and I’ve had success applying both with my fingers and with a brush. Looking for a little more coverage? The Tinted Face Oil pairs incredibly well with KOSAS’ Revealer Concealer, which you can apply over the foundation just to the areas that need some extra love.

#2 – ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation

Best for those seeking SPF protection and a natural finish

ILIA foundation

This is another light coverage foundation, though in my opinion it is slightly heavier than the previously mentioned option. The Super Serum Skin Tint comes with a dropper so it is easy to dispense the preferred amount of product. The formula is moisturizing, but not at all oily, and the SPF is perfect for those planning to spend some time in the sun.

#3 – Bite Beauty Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation

Best for those wishing for medium coverage

Bite Beauty foundation

The Bite Beauty Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation is a staple in my makeup collection. It offers medium, buildable coverage and a natural finish that lasts all day. I find that it stands ups well to heat and humidity. An added bonus is that you can select the compatible primer based on your own needs – there’s one for normal to dry skin and another for normal to oily.

#4 – W3LL People Narcissist Foundation Stick

Best for those who may want to touch-up on the go

W3LL People foundation

The W3LL People Narcissist Foundation stick offers medium coverage and a natural finish. My preferred application method is to draw on the face, and then blend out with a foundation brush. Given that many of us live in places with mask mandates, this foundation is an excellent option if you might want to touch up your nose once heading back outside.

Swatches and Wrap Up

All four of these foundations are excellent for anyone wishing to bring out their skin’s natural beauty with minimal effort. But remember, always apply SPF if there isn’t any in your foundation’s composition!

swatches of discussed foundations
As you can see, there are a variety of textures. These are the shades I wear in each formula (though the W3LL People is looking a bit light based upon my current sun exposure!)

Hello, I’m back. Did you miss me? It’s been over a year since I last posted and for that, I apologize. I thought I’d get things rolling again with some of my current favorites. Foundation

I’m going to shout out two foundations today, both in the “clean” beauty sector, and both very nice. The first is the Kosas Tinted Face Oil. This is absolutely a full on oil, which was a first for me, but I love it. The Tinted Face Oil offers a light coverage and a natural finish, though I do lightly set with powder. I highly recommend this for the winter months if you have dry or combination skin.

My second favorite complexion product is the new Bite Beauty Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation. This is a more standard liquid foundation formula with medium coverage and a natural finish.

Eyeshadow

Ooooh this is a tough category! I’m going to have to shout out Viseart for their Paris Edit palette. It’s a lovely little twelve pan collection of nudes, purples, and a charming steel blue. Let me also applaud Kosas a second time for their 10 Second Eyeshadow. I absolutely love this liquid formula, especially the shades 333 and Globe.

Viseart Paris Edit

Blush and Highlight

OK, so this is an exciting one. One of the very first beauty bloggers I followed has started creating her own line of cosmetics. So, let me recommend Sarahlovsmakeup’s cream blush and highlighter (available HERE). I use A Little Bit Alexis and Hot Climates nearly every day now. I absolutely love their consistency, finish, and longevity.

Lipstick

You know I could easily write a 10 page essay about my lip products. That being said, I’m going to try to hone in on a couple of options that I’ve been using quite frequently. The first would have to be Bite Beauty’s newest iteration of their lip crayon: the Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayon. I highly recommend the shade Brandy for a classy berry pout.

Bite Beauty goodies

If you’re more into glossy options, let me suggest the Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss (I know, I know, more Kosas…) I am quite partial to the shade Fruitjuice.

In conclusion, I have many favorites. Always. If you’d like me to go into greater detail about any of these brands or items, please drop a request in the comments. Wishing you all good health.

Natasha Denona Cranberry Palette

As I’m sure you can imagine, the Natasha Denona Cranberry Palette is not your everyday neutral go-to. The three lighter shades are packed with shimmer and glitter. This is a palette you pick up if you want to make a statement. That statement is “look at me!”

Natasha Denona Cranberry Palette

As you can see, the Natasha Denona Cranberry Palette has some gorgeous shade options. But here’s the rub- while the shimmery shades literally shine, the red and the cranberry leave a lot to be desired. Using a brush will require a lot of building up. How about your finger? While your fingertip will be packed with color, the payoff on your lid will, for some reason, be mediocre. This can actually be a good thing if the deep shades intimidate you and you want a light wash of color. But I personally expect more from Natasha Denona’s shadows.

So do you need this palette? Not at all. But you might still want it if you are into the color scheme and are willing to work with it.  It would also make a lovely gift for a makeup-loving friend.

Natasha Denona Gold Palette https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2018/10/natasha-denona-gold-palette/ https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2018/10/natasha-denona-gold-palette/#respond Mon, 08 Oct 2018 11:30:00 +0000 http://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/?p=1650 For those who love gold Natasha Denona Gold Palette Hello, friends! This is going to be a quick, photo-heavy post for the purpose of showing you the new Natasha Denona Gold Palette. This addition to Natasha Denona’s palette offerings features fifteen shades in a heavy, magnetic-closure component similar to that of the Lila and Sunset palettes. The Gold Palette, while heavy in the gold shades, of course, also offers a variety of shades that work in tandem with the golds to create any look you can imagine. Some shades have matte finishes while others are metallic or “sparkling.” Let me show you…   As you can see, the matte shades show a lot of pigmentation. They are soft but not overly powdery, exactly what we expect based on the shadows in previous palettes. Sparks and Cava, the “sparkling” formula, are best suited as toppers rather than standalone shades. The blue shades – Python and Aurora- are not overly cool-toned and should be beautiful on most skin tones.   So far I am having a lot of fun playing with the Natasha Denona Gold Palette. It is currently available at Sephora and Beautylish.   Natasha Denona Palettes:

Kyut Box: A Subscription Box for the Animal Lover https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2018/09/bunny-beauty-box/ https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2018/09/bunny-beauty-box/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 11:35:55 +0000 http://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/?p=1638 Finally, a subscription box for the Animal Lover Kyut Box* *PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BOX WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED THE “BUNNY BEAUTY BOX.” Hello, beautiful classmates! It feels like a wave of change is coming to the world of the beauty-obsessed. Consumers are more and more expressing their desire for brands to be cruelty-free and vegan. While I am personally not a cruelty-free crusader, I would like to begin making more ethically-conscious decisions when it comes to what I put on my face. After all, it seems unnecessary that an animal would have to suffer so that my lips could look red, y’know? That’s why I thought it might be fun to try a subscription to Kyut Box. Kyut Box is a monthly subscription service that focuses on cruelty-free and vegan beauty products. The boxes contain four to six full sized items. Similar to other subscription services, the items and shades you get are a surprise (but foundation and concealer are never in the box, so you don’t have to worry about color matches!) Finally, a subscription box for the Animal Lover

Kyut Box*

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BOX WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED THE “BUNNY BEAUTY BOX.”

Hello, beautiful classmates!

Similar to other subscription services, the items and shades you get are a surprise (but foundation and concealer are never in the box, so you don’t have to worry about color matches!)

I signed up for Kyut Box in August, so the first box I got was shipped out at the end of the month and arrived at the beginning of September. The August box contained five items – all from brands I was unfamiliar with prior to receiving the package. I haven’t yet tested all of the products, so I won’t do a review, but if you look in the photo below you can see the descriptions of every item.

There are three different payment options for the Kyut Box – monthly, three months prepaid and six months prepaid. The prepaid options include a bit of a discount. If you use the code “FIRSTLOVE,” you can get 30% off your first box, too! It’s worth noting that a portion of each sale goes to the Rescue + Freedom Project, a non-profit organization that has been freeing survivors from laboratory experiments, senior and special needs animals from shelters, and animal victims of horrific abuse from around the world.

It is approximately two years since I initially posted this review of the “Bunny Beauty Box.” In that time I received an amazing array of cruelty free beauty products. Please note that I did cancel my subscription after about 18 months, but that had more to do with personal finances than my satisfaction with the subscription service. Upon revisiting the Kyut Box page, I notice that all of the boxes are “sold out.” Hopefully they will be available to purchase again soon!
