Here is a brief overview of some of my beauty favorites that I used last month! First, let’s talk about the newest ColourPop craze – their powder shadows. These bad boys are no joke. At only $5 a piece, they compete with other well-known brands that sell magnetic pans. I got eight shades (because it was a free palette for every 4) and fit all 8 into the palette once I removed the insert. My favorite shades are Paper Tiger and High Strung! You know I love my warm-toned shadows! Next up, the new IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact. This is apparently the first solid serum foundation on the market. It provides a medium coverage, natural finish, and never feels heavy. I don’t think it will ever reach holy grail status for me, but I love it for everyday, easygoing looks. I’ve also been loving the Make Up For Ever Star Lit Liquid – 2 Pink Beige. It’s the most amazing iridescent liquid. Hello everyone! Here is a brief overview of some of my beauty favorites that I used last month!

February Favorites

First, let’s talk about the newest ColourPop craze – their powder shadows. These bad boys are no joke. At only $5 a piece, they compete with other well-known brands that sell magnetic pans. I got eight shades (because it was a free palette for every 4) and fit all 8 into the palette once I removed the insert.

ColourPop

My favorite shades are Paper Tiger and High Strung! You know I love my warm-toned shadows!

Next up, the new IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact. This is apparently the first solid serum foundation on the market. It provides a medium coverage, natural finish, and never feels heavy. I don’t think it will ever reach holy grail status for me, but I love it for everyday, easygoing looks.

I’ve also been loving the Make Up For Ever Star Lit Liquid – 2 Pink Beige. It’s the most amazing iridescent liquid. I like to pat it on top of whatever shadow I’m wearing to transform from human to unicorn.

Make Up For Ever

Now, for the lipsticks. Nudestix, first. This new Magnetic Matte Lip Color is amazing. I especially love Greystone. I have more on that here.

Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color

Then we have the new Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip. The shade Pink Heather is great for everyday wear. I like that it is creamy but it doesn’t wear away quickly like other none-matte products. Swatches are up here.

Well, there you have it! I’d love to hear about your last month’s favorites. Please comment a link to them!

One of my favorite posts to write each month is the beauty favorites list. I really enjoy reflecting upon the month and thinking back to which products have really been on my face for the most days. Let me show you what March was all about:   IT Cosmetics Build-A-Brow – It feels like every month I have another IT brow product to show you. Probably because that’s been the case since the blog got relocated! I wrote about the Build-A-Brow here, and it may be my favorite brow gel ever! Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation – This is by no means a recent purchase, but I’ve found myself going back to this reliable base. It is quite full-coverage but does not get cakey or patchy throughout the day. Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 28 “Green Brown” – Yes, this is perhaps the most unimaginative name for a palette. However, this palette is a superstar. It contains the most luxurious shadows in all shades. IT Cosmetics Build-A-Brow – It feels like every month I have another IT brow product to show you. Probably because that’s been the case since the blog got relocated! I wrote about the Build-A-Brow here, and it may be my favorite brow gel ever!

It Cosmetics

Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation – This is by no means a recent purchase, but I’ve found myself going back to this reliable base. It is quite full-coverage but does not get cakey or patchy throughout the day.

Lancome

Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 28 “Green Brown” – Yes, this is perhaps the most unimaginative name for a palette. However, this palette is a superstar. It contains the most luxurious shadows in all shades. Don’t let the “Green Brown” name fool you – there are colors ranging from pure gold to light teal to burnt orange. PS – I got mine from Beautylish and they always have the best shipping.

Natasha Denona

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish “Soft & Gentle –  Described as a “gilded peach bronze” this highlighter is one that I always find myself going back to. It brightens the cheekbones without making one look like a disco ball.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick “Honeycomb” – I was wavering on this color when I first wrote about it but it has quickly become my new favorite nude. The formula is comfortable and lasts quite a while considering it is not a matte formula.

I hope you will share some of your favorites in the comments!

Hello, class! Forgive me for being a bit delayed on the monthly favorites! But I do have some good ones for you today for our February Favorites – so here ya go!

February Favorites

Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Contour Palette
I expressed my deep appreciation for this palette a few weeks ago. It is a fantistically versatile, quality product. I especially love the range of blushes and cool-toned contour shades.

MAC Beauty Powder in the shade “Pearl Blossom” (from the Flamingo Park Collection)
This beauty powder offers the prettiest light pink sheen that I love to use on light makeup days.

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint
This is my new go-to foundation.  It is incredibly easy to apply and offers amazing lasting powder. I reviewed it here, if you’d like to see.

IT Cosmetics Brow Power Super Skinny in the shade “Gray”
OK, so maybe it sounds silly that I would use a gray pencil, but truthfully, it isn’t gray so much as very cool blonde. I love the ease of use this skinny liner provides. I’m actually on my second pencil because I ran out!

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick in the shade “Metallic Frozen Hot Chocolate”
Well… that was quite a name, eh? I took a chance on this after really strongly disliking a Melted Metallic shade a while back. Frozen Hot Chocolate does actually smell like chocolate, making it my favorite lipstick to apply. This does not dry down matte, but it can last through a cup of coffee if you drink carefully!

As always, I would love to see your monthly favorites. Please leave your link below in the comments section!

I’m so excited to share my January Favorites with you today. I hope you will share links to your January Favorites in the comments! Let’s start with eye shadow! This month I’m featuring two palettes, both very different but equally fun. The Natasha Denona 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette #10 has an amazing assortment of golds and purples. I swatched them all for you here. I’ve also been quite obsessed with the Lime Crime Venus 2 Palette. It has such unique shades (swatched here) that I keep gravitating to, especially “Fly” and “Poison.” I really like the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter as my winter primer. It adds a subtle glow that shines through any foundation, but does not exacerbate oiliness. Another BECCA product made the cut this month – the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone. This is an old favorite for me, but I’ve been reaching for it recently due to my current lack of tan. For my brows, I’ve had a lot of success with the It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil. It has that nice wedge shape that allows for easy drawing and more natural strokes. Finally, I’ve been loving the new MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, especially in the shade Lady Be Good. Many nude lipsticks lean either too peachy or too dead on me, but this one is perfect. It lasts forever and luckily does not feel super drying on.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you will share a link to you January Favorites in the comments!

I am currently snowed-in, thanks to Winter Storm Jonas. I thought this would be an appropriate time to make some recommendations for products suited for this winter weather. Here are some of my cold weather favorites! Let’s start with the pre-makeup routine. After cleansing, I love to apply the Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid. This light serum locks in moisture all day and absorbs quickly, making it perfect for both morning and night. I use it daily. A great foundation option is the It Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid Foundation. This is the first “cushion compact” I’ve tried and I very much enjoy the ease of application and light coverage. It contains moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, protecting the skin from the winter air. For a light contour and/or bronzing, I like the Nudestix Bronzing Pencil in Golden Sugar and Earth. The dual-ended pencil has a matte shade and a more satin shade, making it perfect for both a light contour and faking a touch of sun in the winter. The pencil’s creaminess is perfect to fight the drying effects of the cold weather. For rosy cheeks, I suggest Kevyn Aucoin The […]

For rosy cheeks, I suggest Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow in Patrice. This crimson shade looks a bit intimidating, I admit, but a couple of dabs on the cheek bones blended out with a beauty blender is the perfect winter flush. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite cheek products since I received it in my Beautylish Lucky Bag.

For a sheer, red lip I enjoy Lipstick Queen Medieval Lipstick. It is perfect if your lips are feeling a bit dry or chapped.

For very dry or chapped lips, go with the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask. I find it to be incredibly soothing. And as an added bonus – it smells like cupcakes!

Well, now I’m off the clean up the mess I made when my hot chocolate boiled over! Please share your cold weather favorites in the comments!

For the second year in a row, I took my chances with the Beautylish Lucky Bag. In case you’ve never heard of this concept, here is how Beautylish described this product in their initial email:

Beautylish Lucky Bag

I thought it might be fun to share what I got!

Beautylish Lucky Bag

Beautylish lucky bag Product List

Bioderma Sebium H20 (100mL) – I have this already from another Beautylish haul but I’ve definitely considered repurchasing. Now I don’t have to! ($6.95)

Jefree Star Velour Lip Scrub – This is an item I never considered purchasing, but I do enjoy a good lip scrub. ($12)

It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil – The idea of a “universal” color always makes me nervous. With my highlighted hair, I try to keep my brows as cool as possible, and browns are frequently warm. I did, however, test this out and the shade is totally fine! It’s perhaps a bit darker than I’m used to, but still manageable. ($24)

Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘n’ Kohl in Marlene Midnight – I love a good deep navy eye pencil! I’ve used this brand and line before, but never this color. I love the formula so this was an excellent surprise. ($27)

Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow in Patrice – I never have much luck with the application of cream blushes, but this one just may be my new favorite. The deep red color blends out to a really subtle and attractive crimson flush. ($26)

BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector – A few weeks ago I had to decide if I wanted this or their Backlight Priming Filter. I went with the latter, but I’m so glad I now can add the former to my collection. I tested this out this morning and it may be the most mattifying product I’ve ever used. ($36)

Natasha Denona Eye Shadow Palette 5, palette #10 – This item isn’t even for sale yet on Beautylish, but it may just be my favorite Lucky Bag item! I’m not going to go into great detail because my next post will be full of swatches. This retails on Natasha’s own website for $48.

Final Thoughts

In total, my bag 2016 Beautylish Lucky Bag was worth $179.95, which means I had a savings of $104.95. As one of my biggest hauls during the year, this definitely holds a good value still and I will consider going in for next year’s Beautylish lucky bag when the time comes! I also highly recommend Beautylish in general because they offer some really nice brands and fantastic customer service.

I hope you will share what you received. Please post your links in the comments!

Let’s start off 2016 by taking a look at some of my favorite beauty products from 2015! For the sake of brevity, I’ll try to keep my descriptions short and sweet. Feel free to let me know in the comments if you’d like more information! Where possible, I have included links to the product from websites I have used in the past. I have also linked to previous reviews, if I have one. Favorite Primer: Marc Jacobs Invisible Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer – This is my favorite all-purpose primer. Having used it in both warm and cool weather, I can safely say that it is great for dry skin, yet does not over-grease oily skin. I especially love it under the serum foundations that are becoming popular. Favorite Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (I use Chantilly)- This concealer is amazing over blemishes; a tiny dot can cover the biggest zit. I’ve also used it under the eye, and I have to say that it creases less than some products marketed as dedicated undereye correctors. Favorite Foundation: MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation (I’m shade NC20) – OK, so this one is a big […]

Hello class, and Happy New Year!

2015 Beauty Favorites

Let’s start off 2016 by taking a look at some of my favorite beauty products from 2015! For the sake of brevity, I’ll try to keep my descriptions short and sweet. Feel free to let me know in the comments if you’d like more information! Where possible, I have included links to the product from websites I have used in the past. I have also linked to previous reviews, if I have one.

2015 Beauty Favorites

  • Favorite Primer: Marc Jacobs Invisible Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer – This is my favorite all-purpose primer. Having used it in both warm and cool weather, I can safely say that it is great for dry skin, yet does not over-grease oily skin. I especially love it under the serum foundations that are becoming popular.
  • Favorite Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (I use Chantilly)- This concealer is amazing over blemishes; a tiny dot can cover the biggest zit. I’ve also used it under the eye, and I have to say that it creases less than some products marketed as dedicated undereye correctors.
  • Favorite Foundation: MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation (I’m shade NC20) – OK, so this one is a big deal because my skin does not normally get along with MAC foundations. However, this product has been a game changer. I use it especially on days I know are going to be very long, as well as any time I have to be on stage, because I know it will last. We reviewed this foundation here.
  • Favorite Eye Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance – I got this one because everyone raves about it. I now understand why. It is very easy to apply and does help shadow last on long days. I notice significantly less creasing when I use this versus other popular eye primers.
  • Favorite Eye Liner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (shade Trooper) – The applicator on this is so interesting; lying somewhere between brush and felt tip, this product makes winging eyeliner a breeze.
  • Favorite Mascara: L’Oreal Miss Manga Rock Voluminous Waterproof Mascara (side note – our only “drugstore” product today!) – I have issues with many high-end mascaras, so to find a drugstore mascara that I love is fantastic. I am on my third tube of this because I love the way it lengthens and volumizes dramatically, without being overly clumpy.
  • Favorite Brow Product: It Cosmetics Build-A-Brow (shade Blonde) – I didn’t think anything could trump the popular ABH dipbrow, but this cream is by far more forgiving and easier to manipulate.

2015 Beauty Favorites

2015 Beauty Favorites

  • Favorite Lip Gloss: Dior Rouge Brillant (Hollywood) – I hated lip gloss until I found this. It is thick but not tacky and lasts quite a while for gloss. Also, the color is fantastic.
  • Favorite Cream-Finish Lipstick: Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick (Cava) – This is my all-time favorite nude because it is cool-toned and pigmented. The cream finish has decent staying power and the formula is moisturizing.
  • Favorite Liquid-to-Matte Lipstick: Lime Crime Velvetine (Bleached) and ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip (Trap) – Similar formulas and colors, I had to have a tie happen. Bleached is a peachy nude and Trap is a gray-toned nude, but both are fantastic and can be altered by using a liner beneath them.
  • Favorite Matte Lipstick: ColourPop Lippie Stix (Pinch) and Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lipstick (Barberry) – ColourPop Lippie Stix are some of my favorites, and Pinch takes the cake as the best slightly-darker-than-nude shade. I believe Bite Beauty Barberry was a limited release, but I suggest pouncing on any matte lipsticks that Bite comes out with.

For fun, I’ve included swatches of the above-mentioned lip products:

2015 Beauty Favorites

top to bottom: Bite Barberry, Bite Cava, ColourPop Pinch, ColourPop Trap, Lime Crime Bleached — left: Dior Hollywood

My favorite part of starting the new year is seeing everyone else’s favorites from the previous 12 months. Please, share your lists in the comments so we can all see!
