ColourPop Yes, Please! Pressed Powder Shadow Palette

Hello, class, and please accept my apologies for this long delay in updating! However, we are officially in summer mode so now I can catch up on showing you all the things I have to show you. The first, and possibly most important thing I have to show you is the ColourPop Yes, Please! Pressed Powder Shadow Palette.

First, let’s talk about ColourPop’s pressed powder shadow formula. This is a somewhat newer product in the short history of ColourPop, and it is fabulous. The normal shadow pans are $5 each, but swatch like high-end formulas. The pans in the Yes, Please! palette are smaller than the single shadows, but you are still getting twelve shades for $16.

ColourPop Yes, Please!

The shades in the ColourPop Yes, Please! palette, as stated on ColourPop’s site, are:

Full-Zip: matte warm ivory
Big Cocktails: matte orange
Champs: matte pale peachy nude
Bling: metallic rust
Louie: metallic duochrome red with a gold flip
Butter Cake: metallic pale yellow gold
Spoiled: matte brick red
Gno: matte burnt orange
Mischief: matte warm yellow
Note to Self: matte warm caramel
Chauffeur: metallic duochrome bright orange with a gold flip
French Kiss: matte deep red brown

Basically, this is you everyday super warm-toned palette. It is very similar to a very expensive palette that I do not own to swatch for you. Yes, I’m talking about the Natasha Denona Sunset palette. Just google it.

The Swatches

Here, let me just show you the swatches already. First, in direct sunlight:

ColourPop Yes, Please!

Now, in the shade:

ColourPop Yes, Please!

Mind you, these were flat brush swatches, and I did not touch the brush to the pan more than once for each swatch. So yeah, pigmentation in there. The top shade is obviously tough to see on my particular skin tone. Mattes and metallics alike perform well.

I have used the ColourPop Yes, Please! Palette on the eyes and is works for a wide array of looks, from neutral to fire-inspired. However, this palette does come with a few negatives. For one, it’s white. It will get dirty. Sorry. And even worse – it’s currently out of stock. However, ColourPop did say they’d restock soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

In the meantime, check out some other ColourPop posts!

Here is a brief overview of some of my beauty favorites that I used last month! First, let’s talk about the newest ColourPop craze – their powder shadows. These bad boys are no joke. At only $5 a piece, they compete with other well-known brands that sell magnetic pans. I got eight shades (because it was a free palette for every 4) and fit all 8 into the palette once I removed the insert. My favorite shades are Paper Tiger and High Strung! You know I love my warm-toned shadows! Next up, the new IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact. This is apparently the first solid serum foundation on the market. It provides a medium coverage, natural finish, and never feels heavy. I don’t think it will ever reach holy grail status for me, but I love it for everyday, easygoing looks. I’ve also been loving the Make Up For Ever Star Lit Liquid – 2 Pink Beige. It’s the most amazing iridescent liquid. Hello everyone! Here is a brief overview of some of my beauty favorites that I used last month!

February Favorites

First, let’s talk about the newest ColourPop craze – their powder shadows. These bad boys are no joke. At only $5 a piece, they compete with other well-known brands that sell magnetic pans. I got eight shades (because it was a free palette for every 4) and fit all 8 into the palette once I removed the insert.

ColourPop

My favorite shades are Paper Tiger and High Strung! You know I love my warm-toned shadows!

Next up, the new IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact. This is apparently the first solid serum foundation on the market. It provides a medium coverage, natural finish, and never feels heavy. I don’t think it will ever reach holy grail status for me, but I love it for everyday, easygoing looks.

It Cosmetics

I’ve also been loving the Make Up For Ever Star Lit Liquid – 2 Pink Beige. It’s the most amazing iridescent liquid. I like to pat it on top of whatever shadow I’m wearing to transform from human to unicorn.

Make Up For Ever

Now, for the lipsticks. Nudestix, first. This new Magnetic Matte Lip Color is amazing. I especially love Greystone. I have more on that here.

Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color

Then we have the new Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip. The shade Pink Heather is great for everyday wear. I like that it is creamy but it doesn’t wear away quickly like other none-matte products. Swatches are up here.

Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip

Well, there you have it! I’d love to hear about your last month’s favorites. Please comment a link to them!

The July Favorites time is always an upsetting time because it means Summer is half over. Or, I suppose you could look at it as “half started.” I guess most teachers go with the former. Life is hard.

July was full of fun new releases, for sure. The warmer months also bring us back to past favorites meant to withstand crazy humidity and heat. So, without further ado, here are my July beauty favorites.

July favorites

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit “Moonchild” – When I first started planning for this post, I had no doubt that Moonchild would be among my favorites for the month. Boasting unique and ethereal colors, this palette is a must-have for the highlight enthusiast. It is currently out-of-stock but I bet it will make a brief comeback, so keep your eyes peeled!

July favorites

Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow Palette – This extremely versatile glitter bomb is a fantastic way to add some sparkle in your life. I especially enjoy using the many shades to add just a hint of sheen on top of other matte shadows.

July favorites

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – This is a rediscovery for me. My older Born This Way foundation was just a touch too dark, so when I finally repurchased in the correct shade it was like finding love all over again. This is a full coverage foundation that will last through your sweatiest days.

July favorites

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lipstick “Alyssa” – This neutral dusty pink is basically my lip color but somehow better. And you know  absolutely love ColourPop’s Ultra Satin formula. This shade is a part of KathleenLight’s collaboration so be sure to get your hands on it before it is gone.

IMG_20160801_090558007_HDR July favorites

Too Faced Sketch Markers – The liquid eye liners are just so fun. They come in many colors (I have Smoky Emerald and Papaya Peach). They have a felt marker tip that allows for easy line and wing drawing.

July favorites

BeautyBlender Blotterazzi – I was in the habit of continually applying powder to my face until I found this guy. The Blotterazzi is like the sponge version of blotting papers. The product comes with two sponges in a cute case that has a giant mirror. The Blotterazzi does not remove makeup when pressed to your face, just excess oil. I highly recommend it.

July favorites

Well, those are my July favorites. What were yours? Please link to them in the comments for everyone to see!

I like this look because it is blue without looking like I jumped out of the eighties or a middle school dance. It is also sparkly without being glittery, if that makes sense. Basically, it’s like a really cool wet look.

I hope you can take some inspiration from my Ocean-Inspired Eyes. I hope you will share your looks in the comments!

Hello class, and Happy New Year!

2015 Beauty Favorites

Let’s start off 2016 by taking a look at some of my favorite beauty products from 2015! For the sake of brevity, I’ll try to keep my descriptions short and sweet. Feel free to let me know in the comments if you’d like more information! Where possible, I have included links to the product from websites I have used in the past. I have also linked to previous reviews, if I have one.

2015 Beauty Favorites

  • Favorite Primer: Marc Jacobs Invisible Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer – This is my favorite all-purpose primer. Having used it in both warm and cool weather, I can safely say that it is great for dry skin, yet does not over-grease oily skin. I especially love it under the serum foundations that are becoming popular.
  • Favorite Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (I use Chantilly)- This concealer is amazing over blemishes; a tiny dot can cover the biggest zit. I’ve also used it under the eye, and I have to say that it creases less than some products marketed as dedicated undereye correctors.
  • Favorite Foundation: MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation (I’m shade NC20) – OK, so this one is a big deal because my skin does not normally get along with MAC foundations. However, this product has been a game changer. I use it especially on days I know are going to be very long, as well as any time I have to be on stage, because I know it will last. We reviewed this foundation here.
  • Favorite Eye Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance – I got this one because everyone raves about it. I now understand why. It is very easy to apply and does help shadow last on long days. I notice significantly less creasing when I use this versus other popular eye primers.
  • Favorite Eye Liner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (shade Trooper) – The applicator on this is so interesting; lying somewhere between brush and felt tip, this product makes winging eyeliner a breeze.
  • Favorite Mascara: L’Oreal Miss Manga Rock Voluminous Waterproof Mascara (side note – our only “drugstore” product today!) – I have issues with many high-end mascaras, so to find a drugstore mascara that I love is fantastic. I am on my third tube of this because I love the way it lengthens and volumizes dramatically, without being overly clumpy.
  • Favorite Brow Product: It Cosmetics Build-A-Brow (shade Blonde) – I didn’t think anything could trump the popular ABH dipbrow, but this cream is by far more forgiving and easier to manipulate.

2015 Beauty Favorites

2015 Beauty Favorites

  • Favorite Lip Gloss: Dior Rouge Brillant (Hollywood) – I hated lip gloss until I found this. It is thick but not tacky and lasts quite a while for gloss. Also, the color is fantastic.
  • Favorite Cream-Finish Lipstick: Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick (Cava) – This is my all-time favorite nude because it is cool-toned and pigmented. The cream finish has decent staying power and the formula is moisturizing.
  • Favorite Liquid-to-Matte Lipstick: Lime Crime Velvetine (Bleached) and ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip (Trap) – Similar formulas and colors, I had to have a tie happen. Bleached is a peachy nude and Trap is a gray-toned nude, but both are fantastic and can be altered by using a liner beneath them.
  • Favorite Matte Lipstick: ColourPop Lippie Stix (Pinch) and Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lipstick (Barberry) – ColourPop Lippie Stix are some of my favorites, and Pinch takes the cake as the best slightly-darker-than-nude shade. I believe Bite Beauty Barberry was a limited release, but I suggest pouncing on any matte lipsticks that Bite comes out with.

For fun, I’ve included swatches of the above-mentioned lip products:

2015 Beauty Favorites

top to bottom: Bite Barberry, Bite Cava, ColourPop Pinch, ColourPop Trap, Lime Crime Bleached — left: Dior Hollywood

My favorite part of starting the new year is seeing everyone else’s favorites from the previous 12 months. Please, share your lists in the comments so we can all see!

As New Year’s Eve approaches, I wanted to recommend some products if you’re looking for a way to add some subtle sparkle to your overall look.   For your eyes: ColourPop makes some of my favorite shimmery (and low-cost) products. For NYE, I gravitate towards Cricket and Hammered for their multidimensional sparkle. I’m also loving MAC’s Pearlglide Instense Eye Liner in Petrol Blue. This deep navy pencil has just a hint of glitter and can easily be blended out for a smokey NYE look. Also check out Lime Crime’s liquid liners for a glittery surprise. I’m showing Rhyme here, but Reason, a silver, is equally impressive and still available. For your face: ColourPop kills it, again, in this department. For a super glow, I recommend their highlighter in Spoon. Nars’ dual intensity blushes also offer some great NYE options. I particularly recommend their Steven Klein collaboration in the shade(s) Vengeful. The left-side highlighter is fantastic on the cheek bones. As always, please share your related posts in the comments so we can all see! And check back soon for my 2015 beauty favorites list!

Holiday Red Lipstick Picks https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2015/12/holiday-red-lipstick-picks/ https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2015/12/holiday-red-lipstick-picks/#respond Thu, 24 Dec 2015 11:00:12 +0000 http://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/?p=109 Happy holidays and Merry Christmas! While I’m on hold with a furniture company who shall not be named (yet!) for the fifteenth time, and thirtieth minute, I wanted to share some of my picks for holiday red lipstick. Representing Colourpop: Bichette is a deep, blue-toned red. It’s super classy. Bossy is a brighter red. It’s really nice to pair with a gold eye. From Kat Von D: Adora is an orange-toned red, which is a lovely warm option for this time of year. It has a slight shimmer. Thin Lizzy is more of a brick-red that has a bit more shimmer and would be nice with a smokey eye. From MAC: Charlotte (LE) is another deep red if you’re feeling sultry. And Russian Red is a MAC classic that looks great on many skin tones. Please share your holiday red picks with the class in the comments! Wishing you and your families a happy holiday season!

ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick Swatches https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2015/12/colourpop/ https://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/2015/12/colourpop/#respond Sat, 19 Dec 2015 13:49:00 +0000 http://thisteacherwearsmakeup.com/?p=81 Let’s talk about ColourPop. I needed to get my little hands on their newest product, their Ultra Matte lipstick. This is a liquid formula, similar to Stila’s Stay All Day, Lime Crime’s Velvetines, and Anastasia Beverly Hills’ liquid lipsticks. I find that the ColourPop formula is thinner than the Stila, but perhaps not as liquidy as the Lime Crime. It doesn’t matter- it’s fabulous. I don’t throw the f-word (fabulous) around. This stuff is good. I ate taquitos and there was barely any fading. TAQUITOS. Darn, now I’m hungry. Let me show you the shades I got. I was going for everyday wearable shades. You’ll find that I only half-succeeded. Trap, Beeper and Kapow are significantly darker than I expected. Kapow is a no-go for work, but I may be able to work Trap, Beeper and Shimmy in. I’m still experimenting with Seesaw. Nevertheless, I’m super in love with all of these. What about dupes, you may ask? If you have some popular MAC mattes, you may already have something similar to these shades. Granted, the formula is entirely different. So it’s up to you. After all, CPop is only $6USD! What do you think about the ColourPop Ultra Mattes? […]
