This will be another short and sweet post, because it’s all about the swatches. Today we focus on the LORAC Mega PRO 4 eyeshadow palette, the fourth (duh) installment in a series of giant LORAC palettes. As with the previous three LORAC Mega PRO palettes, the Mega PRO 4 contains 32 shades. Half of the shadows are matte, while half are a shimmer formula. This year’s palette has a light pink packaging. For those who are unfamiliar with the Mega PRO tradition, these palettes are awesome (in my opinion, of course). I applaud LORAC for that decision.   Swatches As you can see below, the shadows in the LORAC Mega Pro 4 are pigmented and smooth to apply. Thoughts

I will always be a Mega PRO fan. However, I find that out of all four palettes, I am least inspired by this newest addition. I have also read that the shades do not flatter deeper skin tones. However, it is a beautiful palette and worth purchasing if you are a collector like me, or genuinely are drawn to the shade selection. The LORAC Mega PRO 4 is available at ULTA and on the LORAC website!

This time, rather than a giant Mega Pro we have ourselves a smaller palette based around the theme of brunch. In fact, it is part of a larger I Love Brunch collection. Let’s take a closer look.

LORAC I Love Brunch

As you can see, the 16 colorful shades sit in a white palette that has an iridescent sheen. The I Love Brunch palette also comes with primer and a dual-ended brush.

The LORAC I Love Brunch Palette appealed to me because in addition to having many pastel shades, which seem to be becoming popular, it contains a number of neutral colors.

LORAC I Love Brunch Palette

Hopefully you can see all the shade names. I have to admit that I just made my husband google “moonlight brunch” because I didn’t know what moonlight has to do with brunch. Apparently that turned up a billion results, including a production company? Who knew?

I did some swatches for you. I used a flat brush over primer and took the photos in the bathroom light.

The standouts for me are Blueberry Scone, Gluten Free and Eggs Benny. Disappointments include Jelly Donut and Valet. In general, the shadows are fairly dusty and require that you pat them on, rather than use a typical brushing motion. That being said, applied over primer their lasting power is decent. I got about 12 hours of wear out of some of the shades during the workweek.

So, do you need the LORAC I Love Brunch Pro Palette? Probably not. But, if you have few pastel shades and don’t mind putting in some extra legwork in to the application, then this is a decent option on the market.

LORAC Mega Pro 3

I’m feelin’ a little lazy today, so I’m going to give you the info directly from Ulta’s website:

Go PRO with Lorac Mega PRO Palette 3! This limited edition PRO artistry palette is packed with 32 eye shadows in all the matte and shimmer shades you need to create the hottest looks straight from Hollywood. Lorac’s velvety smooth shadows are ultra pigmented with maximum payoff to perform wet or dry so you can shade, shadow, line and define your eyes, just like a PRO.

White soft touch palette with rose gold detail.

Featuring 32 PRO Eye Shadow Shades:

  • 16 Matte (top two rows) & 16 Shimmer (bottom two rows)
  • 30 New Shades & 2 Essential Shades (Jet Black and Snow)

Shades include:

  • 1st Row: Pink Cream (matte), Tan (matte), Pecan (matte), Walnut (matte), Dusty Mauve (matte), Violet Gray (matte), Eggplant (matte), Dark Navy (matte)
  • 2nd Row: Crépe (matte), Toffee (matte), Mist (matte), Vintage (matte), Hickory (matte), Maple (matte), Bark (matte), Jet Black (matte)
  • 3rd Row: Snow (shimmer), Cava (shimmer), Cider (shimmer), Bellini (shimmer), Brown Sugar (shimmer), Sequouia (shimmer), Glacier (shimmer), Deep Fog (shimmer)
  • 4th Row: Tulle (shimmer), Pink Bronze (shimmer), Rust (shimmer), Rose Quartz (shimmer), Olive (shimmer), Dark Roast (shimmer), Pomegranate (shimmer), Licorice (shimmer)

While I don’t think I’ve played with every single shade yet, I can assure you that the mega pro palettes have a history of being excellent quality. Overall, I think this third installation leans more heavily rose and copper than the previous two, but it does have some stunning shades that are cool-toned. Let’s take a look…

LORAC Mega Pro 3

As you can see, this is a stunning palette, and perhaps a good deal if you consider it is $59 USD for 32 shadows. While some of the shades are “dupeable” I’d say the LORAC Mega Pro 3 is at least different enough from the first two to warrant adding it to your collection. Here are some comparison shots:

LORAC Mega Pro 3

LORAC Mega Pro original (red), 2 (blue), 3(white)

LORAC Mega Pro 3

As with the previous 2 mega pro palettes, you can expect the LORAC Mega Pro 3 to sell out and be gone forever. So if you need it… get it!

While the differences between these shades do not seem huge, any fair girl can attest to the fact that the less orange a contour shade is, the better.

And as far as not being part of a palette goes, the K.A. is certainly more portable because of this fact. I mean, we use so many different highlights anyway, why not mix and match?

I hope this helps if you’re in the market for a new contour powder!

Good morning, class!

As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been underwhelmed with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette. In fact, I haven’t ever really written about it, except to mention it briefly in “Do Now’s”. I guess it just wasn’t the miracle product that I was expecting it to be based on the hype upon its release. Don’t get me wrong, the powders are quite nice and the color range seems pretty good. I just never got the hang of using these powders to create any sort of natural contour.

So, as I was doing some shopping for my giveaway. I happened upon LORAC’s new contour palette at Ulta. I walked past it. I didn’t need it.

Cut to about 20 minutes later and it has somehow appeared in my hands on the checkout line. Amazing how that happens…

LORAC Pro Contour

Anyway, I wanted to do just a brief comparison between these two palettes based on the limited use I’ve had with each. Please feel free to share your own thoughts or link to your own posts about either of these products in the comments section!

Both palettes come with six powders. Pictured below is the ABH Kit in Light to Medium and (circular pots) and LORAC Palette (rectangular). You’ll notice that the ABH shades do not have labels on the palette, but they do have names.

Lorac vs. ABH

If I’ve done the math correctly, then the ABH Kit has .66 total ounces of product, evenly distributed. LORAC has .73 total ounces of product, with Shimmer Highlight and Medium Contour being bigger than the other four. I suppose they feel that these will be your most used shades. ABH retails for $40 and LORAC for $45. This makes ABH the better deal just slightly.

The shades in the two palettes are fairly comparable, though I think the highlights in the LORAC are a bit lighter, which is important to me. I also think the contours have more variation in the LORAC and are slightly cooler-toned.

I tried to swatch both below for you. I did mix up the order of shades in the ABH to more closely correspond with the LORAC. Here ya go!

LORAC vs. ABH

ABH left and Lorac right

Swatching these side-by-side, I noticed that the highlights in the ABH are pinker and the in the LORAC, yellower. The contours are fairly similar, though I do think the LORAC has more pigmentation.

Based on the information above, and using each palette a little bit on my face, I have to say that I prefer the LORAC. All in all, it works better for my skin tone, and I find the powders easier to blend. Also, it comes with a brush. I forgot about that. I guess that makes LORAC the better deal, too!

Do you use either of these palettes? What do you think about them?
